I was born in Pottsville, but grew up in Cressona. I went to the Blue Mountain School District from 1980-1993.
I then went on to Kutztown University for marine biology. I got a horrible kidney infection in the fall of 1994 & had to withdraw from college. I had worked in the Womyn's (yes, that's how they spell it.) Center & was the secretary of the Womyn's Action Group.
I went to Penn State, Schuylkill Campus for all of 1995 & was on the Dean's List for the Spring & Fall semesters of that year. I was also in the Honors Program in Chemistry in the fall of 1995. I did my field study on "Lufenuron" - "Program"(TM) for cats & dogs, the 1st flea pill of that kind. I was in the general studies program. During all of this, I talked to the owner of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, NJ. He told me that if I wanted to work with marine mammals, that I'd have a better chance going into veterinary medicine.
So I switched gears and went to Harcum College, Bryn Mawr, just about 12 miles west of Philly for Veterinary Technology. I was there for all 3 semesters of 1996, just missing the Dean's List by hairs. I was repsonsible for setting up the Organization for Woman's Awareness & starting the 1st Woman's Center. From January - April 1997, I did my practica (internship) at University of Pennsylvania's Small Animal Hospital in Philly. From April - June 1997, I did my other practica at the UoP's Large Animal Hospital in Kennet Square. Technically, on my diploma, it says that I graduated in August of 1997 with an Associates Degree. In June 1997, I sat for my Veterinary Technology State Boards and passed them making me a Certified Veterinary Nurse of PA.
I worked in the field until i got burned out.
In October of 2005, I started at McCann's School of Business & Technology for Professional Massage Therapy. I graduated, Cum Laude, in April 2007 with a Specialized Business Associates Degree in Professional Massage Therapy.
Around May of 2006, I opened BD's Paws for Massage Traveling Massage Practice. I was told that I had all my pertinent classes for massage & that, with the way I gave massages, I should open up my own place. That is finally happening! Click on "where to go" to see where i'll be.
I enjoy giving massages to my clients and hope you would contact me to schedule a session, so I can help you to relax. I do not give sexual massages on any level, as it is illegal & against my personal ethics. So don't even ask.
I also give therapeutic massages, aromatherapy, chair massages, Reiki, & some spa services. For more information on Reiki, see "My Services."
I passed my National Certification Test on 6/18/08. Now I am nationally certified as a massage therapist, which would allow me to move to any state & be able to practice massage. A new bill was just passed recently in July, 2008 that would shut down "adult" massage practices. It has yet to go to Senate & be passed. This means that PA would have to "clean up" it's massage practices & only certified people, like myself & others w/the NCBTMB license would be able to practice massage. If this bill passes in Senate, there will be a state test that massage therapists would have to take. People, like myself, would
be grandfather claused in. If you have any questions on this subject let me know. My phone number is 570-628-3004.
On a more personal level, I enjoy reading, knitting (although i've only knitted 1 scarf in 2 years), studying my Reiki, and tap and ballet. I am currently a dance Instructor at Vivian's Dance Studio, Schuylkill Haven. I teach on Wednesday nights to 3-10 year olds. Our show is always in June & I can not wait to see how my girls do! I am also probably like you, and enjoy music. I guess that's it, I'm not a very complicated person when it comes to what I like.
For a complete bio including my educational background and healing philosophy, simply give me a call or send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you. (570-)628-3004. bdpawsformassage@yahoo.com.
